28 thousand people in Ukraine petitioned the Presidency for same-sex marriage to be legalized. The petition demanding the legalization of same-sex marriage in the country was presented to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

More than 28,000 people signed the petition demanding the legalization of same-sex marriage, which was published online. President Zelensky has 10 days to respond to this petition.

Homosexuality is not illegal in Ukraine, but same-sex marriage is not recognized. On the other hand, this situation caused some special problems for gay individuals who joined the Ukrainian army in the war with Russia.

LGBTI+ individuals who joined the Ukrainian army and lost their lives in the war cannot be buried by their partners, according to the law.

The first official Pride Parade in Ukraine was held in Kiev in 2013, despite protests. The 'anti-discrimination law' was enacted in 2015 to protect LGBTI+ individuals in the country.
