In a statement, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian Parliament Andrei Kartapolov stated that the upper age limit for conscription in Russia can be increased to 30 in the spring, and the lower age limit can only be increased from 18 to 21 after a year.

It is thought that Russia will make the change to make up for the massive manpower shortages caused by its plans to increase its current troop count by 30 percent and the heavy casualties in the war in Ukraine.

In December last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the Defense Ministry's proposal to increase the current age range for Mandatory Military Service from 18-27 to 21-30.
