Ongoing Tensions in Kosovo Mobilized the Country to Become an EU Member

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced this week that they will apply for membership to the European Union (EU).

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced at the cabinet meeting held in the capital Pristina that the application for membership to the European Union (EU) will be made within this week.

Prime Minister Kurti said, "The EU is a house of peace and this is the house to which our country naturally belongs."

Prime Minister Kurti said he made a call a week ago in Tirana to speed up the EU's accession process. "In this context, our application is a response to the EU's promise to join the region at the 2003 summit and a direct response to the invitation at the Tirana summit," he said.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Kurti said that Kosovo is in better shape than many countries that have applied for EU membership before.
