The damage caused by Hurricane Freddy, which also affected Malawi after the African country Mozambique, is growing. Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera announced that the death toll due to the hurricane increased to 326, the number of injured to 796 and the death toll to 201.
Chakwera reported that the number of displaced reached 183,159 and that 317 camps were set up in the areas hit by the severe storm. Emphasizing the need for more humanitarian support from local and international organizations, Chakwera also stated that 14 weeks of national mourning was declared.
