The results of the mayoral elections in the city of Earle, Arkansas, USA, which went to the second round, were announced. An 18-year-old college student was elected mayor.

18-year-old college student Jaylen Smith was elected the new mayor of the city with 235 votes in Earle, Arkansas, USA.

Elected one of the youngest mayors in the United States, Smith also became the youngest member of the African-American Association of Mayors.

Smith, who graduated from Earle High School and continues his education at Arkansas State University, stated that he will continue to work on public safety and job creation.

"People look at me, they see that I just graduated from high school, and they think I don't have the experience because I'm so young. But I always tell them that life has to start somewhere," Smith said in a statement.
